Loving SSWTR’s take on iconic handbags - each one is stripped down to the essence of the original in shape and hardware, and sewn in plain muslin or twill. From the site: “Through this process, the hi- fashion designer bag becomes a lo-fi object sketch and consequently an alternate icon of itself.”
Inspired by: 1. Dior bag; 2. Hermes Birkin bag; 3. Chanel bag. The fourth one shown is the Ultimate bag - a hybrid of elements from Dior, Chanel, Gucci and Balenciaga.

Britt McMaster is addicted to cucumbers. She and her husband, Ryan, live and work in a tiny apartment in downtown Vancouver, BC. Both Ryan and Britt love to write lists of all their ideas on action sheets, and they have pages and pages. They write especially quickly after they've each had a dry cappuccino or two. Most of those fanciful ideas will stay on paper, but Cucumbersome is Britt's platform to try some out.

Ironic! I was just paging through an old STEP magazine from Jan/Feb 2004 and found Mary Ping from SSWTR highlighted in upcoming and emerging artists to watch. Her white canvas deconstructed designer bags were noted - that is what caught my eye - I thought I was dreaming after reading your post…I went back to the mag and sought the page out and yes, it was the same designer! Fantastic and thanks for the déjå vu!

I totally agree with you! It’s a wonder to last a year or two as a new designer in the fashion world, but this girl has design legs and SSWTR will be around for years to come. Thanks for reviewing her - it’s blogs like yours that keep her name fresh and us up to date on her new stuff!
