Seersucker comes from the Persian words “shir o shakar” meaning “milk and sugar”. The term apparently refers to the alternating milky-smooth and bumpy, sugar-like stripes of the fabric (thanks, wikipedia!). I wish the English word was a little closer to the original, like Shirr-shaker. No? No. That’s horrible. Seersucker is such a harsh sounding word for this light, summery fabric.
I’ve been really drawn to pictures of rooms with little bits of seersucker milk & sugar fabric.
