Inspiration: Morocco

Shoe Market in Marrakesh, by amyswear

Morocco has always fascinated me. I would very much like to go there one day. It seems to be the most interesting juxtaposition (my high school art teacher would be so happy to hear me use that word) of African, European and Middle Eastern cultures. Ancient structures wrapped in vivid colors.
I’ve been seeing a lot of design influenced by Morocco. Especially in interior design. I have been gathering bits and pieces of inspiration from all over the web and thought I would post it. Enjoy.

Color

When I saw the picture above in the book Living in Morocco I immediately thought of the color palettes that were featured in the March issue of LivingEtc (above, right). Isn’t that Dove & Vitamin C palette right on? These three color pairings seem to have a Moroccan vibe. I love the idea of a neutral with one shock of color.

Rugs

Many of the rugs I’ve seen from Morocco have traditional designs but very unexpected color.

This rug by Zara Home has a similar feel with the almost neon bits of color. It feels fresh and unexpected in an otherwise calm, modern room.
