The Sincerest Form of Flattery

hilowphoto
This photo is from anthropologie, seen here. I absolutely love the feel of this photo – the feel of worn-down vintage mixed with clean and modern. Mmm. But these items are just a wee bit out of my budget. So I decided to track down some (much) cheaper alternatives to create a similar look. (No offense, Anthropologie. I still love you.) I found some really good deals so read on…
First, the two lamps shown are not my favorite elements of the room so I didn’t search too much for similar ones. The red desk lamp looks vintage, but if you like the pop of red, ikea has a fairly nice red desk light for $49.

Wallpaper

I assumed that the wallpaper featured in the photo was one of their own, but it’s not. After a bit of searching, I found the exact wallpaper at Target.

Cabinet/Armoire

The one above for $399 is a reproduction from this ebay store and ships from China (reasonable shipping rates, though). I think the best option for finding an armoire similar to the anthro one would be to find one locally at an antique store or market but the prices will likely be in the higher range. The three cabinets on the right are a lot more modern but have some of the same “feel”.
Treasured Tomes Cabinet, $1898, Anthropologie
Chinese Antique Style Elm Cabinet, $399, Blue Sea
Savan Cabinet, $449, World Market
Cube Cutout armoire, $900, West Elm
Indie Wardrobe, $399, CB2

Tables

The whole time I was gathering these coffee tables I kept thinking about Tina Fey in Baby Mama getting mad about the gum stuck under her “reclaimed barnwood coffee table”.
That said, I sincerely love reclaimed wood furniture.
The table from the original picture: Open House Coffee Table, $1,198, Anthro
Haven Coffee Table, $599, Pottery Barn
Reclaimed Wood Coffee Table Duo, $598, VivaTerra
Modular coffee table, set of 2 $399, West Elm
Reclamations set of 2 tables, $419, Broyhill Furniture via AT
Brickmaker’s Table, $1295, Restoration Hardware

Also: Check out this post on Re-Nest on how to make a reclaimed wood table.

Okay, so these are a bit of stretch as #2 and #3 don’t really look like the anthro table. But I really like them, especially the hammered drum stool.
1.Cascara side table, $398, Anthropologie
(There is a coffee table version too)
2.Link Side Table, $149, CB2
3.Hammered Drum Stool, $229, VivaTerra

Chairs

Blue chairs
I wasn’t able to find the exact chair from the picture. Anyone know where to find it? But I am kind of smitten with this first chair.
1.Jake Chair in Blue, $79, Room & Board
2.Eames Molded Plastic Armchair, $349, DWR
3.Toro Chair, $90, CB2
4.Eames Molded Plastic Side Chair, $249, DWR
5.Blu Dot Real Good Chair, $129, Design Public

Lanterns

hilowlanterns
Very convenient that I already had these links from my Morocco post.
1.Western Kingdom Lantern, $398, Anthro
2.White Lantern, $250, Wunderley
3.Pierced Kora Lamp, $99, Berber Trading
4.Pierced Metal Hanging Lantern, $197, Wunderley
5.Moroccan Lantern, $120, Urban Outfitters

So now I just need to figure out how to incorporate some of these elements into our apartment without recreating Anthro’s exact tableau.
Because that would be creepy.
And because lamps need lampshades.

would love to see pics of that juxtaposition in your housey-bouse! my how much more green the wall-paper looks in Target – but dig how subdued it went in a bright room. Come out here to Nanton for antique shopping with us!

What confuses me about that first picture is not that the lamp has no lapm shade, but…. WTF is it plugged into? Is that the cord just lying there abandoned mid-floor? ARRRR ALAS!

In all seriousness though, I came here through a link on how to make leather necklaces, great site!!!
