I want to baby our camera. Does anyone else have this problem?

You see that? Button tufted interior. What luxury! Nothing but the best for my camera…
So, yes, this is a little over-the-top. For a camera. It’s just that I want something that I can throw in my purse so I don’t have to be worried about it getting jostled around. I wanted it to be super lo-fi: no zippers, no synthetic ripstop fabric and definitely no velcro. Everything I’ve seen is so bulky and cumbersome. I want to be able to grab my camera immediately when needed.
Details:
Our digital SLR and one extra lens fit snugly inside (no picture to illustrate, for obvious reasons).
I will probably add a couple pockets to the side for little things like SD cards.
It is reinforced with lightweight plastic and cushioned with 1/2″ foam.
There is an unfinished long “pillow” that can be wrapped around the camera or lens for extra cushioning.
The closure is gigantic fabric-covered buttons and elastic.
Each tiny button inside was cut from yellow vinyl using a drill punch.
The stitching is far from perfect. I hand sewed the entire thing because my sewing machine is in need of repair, and for whatever reason I think hand stitching a project is easier than taking the machine in to be serviced. But I guess a lot of it would have needed to be hand-sewn anyway.
There are no straps because I don’t intend on using it much on its own and the whole idea was to keep things from getting tangled in my bag. But I do have 50 m of light gray webbing so I do have the option of adding them on. I bought the 50 m of webbing for $3 at Dressew here in Vancouver. I got the little grommets (where the elastic goes through) for twenty-five cents a pack!

I really enjoyed making it and I’ll feel much more comfortable knowing my little camera is safe. And no, my camera doesn’t have a name. Yet.
Any thoughts? Is it too much? Or not enough?

That’s adorable! For weddings and shoots we carry multiple huge bags full of equipment (not pretty but lots of storage), but I’ve always wanted something small and cute to carry just a single camera around the rest of the time. People can never believe that I don’t always have a camera on me. I don’t think I have the sewing skills to pull this off, though.

Oh, and none of my cameras have names but one of my lenses does. My 70-200IS is named Suri- one of my brides named her.

    It looks great!

What about Captain Snapper? Or Cap’n Snapper, spelling it like that might be cooler with the kids.

Then you can say “I’m just going out with The Captain” or “I can’t find The Captain anywhere!!”

love it! genius! and just so darn aesthetically pleasing! I too stress over the comfort of my camera! Recently employed a soap-travel holder for little Skip — the mec kind is perfect. But for big Betties – this is a stunner! I’d name him Leonard. Someone who’s opinion you respect, “What do you think of this shot, Leonard?” yes. take it!

Love this Brit! I adore buttons and can’t get enough of this camera bag fit for the queen of cameras! Would you do a tutorial? I would love to make one for myself? Let me know if you do one, I would be more than happy to post it on my blog http://www.luvinthemommyhood.com

We featured your table makeover a month ago and I wanted to let you know we have a “featured on luvinthemommyhood” button for blogs now. If you are interested let me know and I will email you the code :)

I love this idea too! I have the same question as Shannon, would you please do a tutorial? I’ve never button tufted anything, but am thinking that this idea would also work for a laptop. I hope to see a tutorial soon!
